  • Bleed showcase a stunning identity for Blank Architects

    Blank is a group of Russian architects located in Moscow that needed a new identity and website. The logotype consists of an international and timeless typography and an icon that is both modern and classic. The icon is an abstract representation of two architectural expressions; One expressive, curved, organic (B), and the other more straight, solid and functional (A). We use it as an emblem, a signature to reinforce the human approach of Blank. The idea of the identity was to focus on the name Blank as the idea of perfection, as in the quote by Samuel Beckett: 'At the end of the day, my last work will be a Blank piece of paper,'  say Bleed.

    As a result, we created a minimalist identity and website that is functional and clear, combined with more progressive and creative ideas. The generative design were developed with the purpose of emphasising key aspects of Blank's architectural and creative approach, helping them attract new projects not only by references and finished output, but also by their attitude and principles towards their discipline. Each composition reacts to the character count of a given quote, and has been developed for use in both print, web and installation context.

  • Darling's new project inspired by Hong Kong's street signs

    Tonic X is a network of spaces and crossover interests rolled into one. "We created a cohesive and flexible identity system that could be adapted to each of the unique offering in this multi concept dining space. Drawing inspiration from Hong Kong street signs which often carry intriguing tales that reflect the rich history and culture, we created symbols, signs and texts that articulate a live-wired language of the modern dining experience," say Darlingon their Behance account. 

    Darling is an interdisciplinary
 design consultancy firm based in Singapore. Established across the domains of branding, print, typography, website design, and spatial installations .

  • Typology: The Classification of Typefaces two ways

    "The book consists of two parts – the main book and a typeface specimen. The main book features the different categories of typefaces, while the specimen only showcases the typeface ‘Albertus MT’. The two separate publications are bound together where the layering format and exposed binding method reenact the intended sense of playfulness" says Rosamund Chen, on her typogragraphic project.

  • Iconic BCN Més newspaper gets a fun and provocative redesign

    BCN Més is an independent monthly newspaper about Barcelona's local culture. Reaching their 50th issue they were looking for a redesign, something fresh but which continued to fit their editorial line: fun and provocative yet thoughtful and involved. The idea was to find a look that was bold and quirky but also clean and direct. Also, they needed a layout that was flexible, capable of accommodating large features next to small columns or illustration blurbs, all of which could be easily replaceable from issue to issue. The only design constraints were to keep the format and its duotone colour. Lena Wiget –editor and Art Director– and Angel Sanz Correa worked hand in hand on redistributing the content in order to get the right reading flow.

    "The core design concept was to establish a new identity for the magazine, which would also become the tool to both divide and illustrate regular sections and columns. Since the newspaper is trilingual (Catalan, Spanish & English), we chose 3 different stroke widths: a very fine one, a medium one and an extra bold one. The fine stroke would be used as a section subdivider, as secondary text underlining, and as the stroke for very small icons –such as page number indicators or credits–. The medium one would be used on section divisions, important text underlining and as the stroke for the regular icons –such as the ones which would illustrate columns and sections–. Finally, the thick stroke would be used to break entire areas of a spread, to highlight and underline important sections and, on rare occasion, illustrate wide areas in a bold fashion. On occasion, the thick stroke would also replace certain key accent marks, such as on the cover or main feature.

    Besides the strokes, the font became the second identity-pillar. We chose a modern masterpiece: GT Sectra, an Egyptian family with a lot of personality, perfectly suited for the magazine's content. Its angled calligraphic finishings would dictate the way in which the whole magazine was designed: the sections and its dividers would become slanted, and so would the icons and illustrations. Finally, this asymmetric approach was applied to the new magazine logo, where the accent on the word "Més" would carry this slanted stroke to the cover, tying together the whole magazine style. 

    Finally, since each magazine's issue was to be printed with a different color (besides black), we chose a monthly one which would suit the mood at the time of the year. It would also create a color wheel throughout the year, beginning with pink in February and ending with red on December."

  • The journeys of artists roam over mountains in this exhibition design

    "One mountain, two mountains, three mountains. The journeys of artists are over countless mountains. We peek between the self, the works and the world. We inquire into the essence, the meaning and the representation of work. On the long journey, searching, exploring and experiencing, we realize art is more than a mountain—objective. It is mist—ambiguous. It is the journey, the process, the presence—abundant. We are on the way, always," says Yi-Hsuan Li , Studio Pros' art directoron designing the 2017 Group Exhibition by NCTU of Applied Arts in Taiwan.

    "Three years, three months, three days. Time leads us to climb over the slopes and cliffs in the process. We are traveling through paper and pages, roaming around in the spectacular scenes, or floating in the river of images," she concludes.

    Studio Pros' art director Yi-Hsuan (1992, Taiwan) is enthusiastic about experimenting new material and idea combination to create more possibilities; furthermore, Hsuan is passionate you might say, stubborn about designing the highest quality works. Her designs have won "Golden Pin Concept Design Award 2016 ", Merit Award of "DFA Design for Asia Awards 2016"," Macau Design Biennial 2015" and featured on "Computer Arts Magazine", "CTA" , "APD", "Etapes", "It's Nice That" and so on. In addition, her works was later on demonstrated in "National Center of Traditional Arts" and "Songshan Creative Park" and "Macau Design Centre",etc.

    Other than design, between year of 2013 and 2014, she has directly hosted a design exhibition and five interdisciplinary cross field seminars, also host "Social Innovation Bus" to promote "Design Thinking" in Social innovation.
